The early prototype of Kyo-Machiya was built in Kyoyo in Heian period, over 1,000 years ago.
Actual Machiya in Kyoto was accomplished in Edo period.
Structures, materials and construction methods of town house were sophisticated in people's living. Also they were influenced greatly by the art of tea ceremony and Zen. That tendency can be seen even to this day.
We would like you to see and touch these considerations and feel the history and culture over 1,000 years.

#1 exit at Oike Station by subway,
make a left at Kurumayamachi Dori (車屋町通り)
and turn right at the next Oshikoji Dori (押小路通り).
There is a doorplate IORI 庵 at south side for the fourth house.
